Developed and tested between 1991 and 1993, the "Soldier 2000" camouflage design was first widely issued to the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) in 1994. Created by the CSIR-Textile Technology group, the pattern features dark green, grass green, and pale green blotches, along with dark and pale green spots on an earth-brown background.
This distinctive design is used on a variety of uniform items and field equipment. It has remained the standard operational and everyday uniform for SANDF personnel well into the 21st century.
